The in-flight guide to holiday grooming

Still putting off that man-bag purchase? With your Summer holiday looming and a tedious flight to endure, it might be time to rethink.

Gone are the days when it was acceptable to board a plane empty-handed while your lady friend struggles under the weight of her various in-flight essentials. Aside from being utterly un-chivalrous, if you want to look your manly best on arrival then you’re going to have to put in the groundwork beforehand, and that means giving your in-flight grooming routine some serious consideration.

We’ve been over this. Public grooming is not emasculating. You do it at home, so why should it be any different when you’re half way across the Atlantic? Ok, so you might like the ladies to believe you woke up with perfectly styled hair, but trust us, they are more than aware that that isn’t the case! And you can always sneak off to the toilets if needs be (mind out of the gutter – we’re talking about washing your face!).

Packing light is the key to in-flight grooming, leaving more room in your man-bag for that all-important entertainment as well as ensuring that you avoid any trouble with liquid restrictions at security.

The Bluebeards Revenge Luxury Shaving Cream, Brushless Shaving Solution, Post Shave Balm and Cooling Moisturiser are all available in handy sachet sizes, with just enough product to see you through the flight. We’ve also got 20ml travel-size pots of our iconic Luxury Shaving Cream and Post Shave Balm, which will more than likely last you the whole week. Absolute holiday essentials? We think so!

Long haul flights can seriously sap your skin of moisture, and while it might not seem like the manliest of concerns, taking steps to prevent dehydration can make all the difference to the way you look on arrival. Let’s face it, the fairer sex are hardly going to come flocking if you’re shedding like a snake on touch-down. Knocking back the beers in-flight might seem like a great idea at the time, but rest assured you’ll be paying the price later. The high altitude means you’ll feel the effects of alcohol much more quickly – and feel a hell of a lot worse once you arrive at your destination, too.
No -one likes a lairy plane passenger, or a grumpy beach buddy, for that matter. Ditch the booze and switch to water, and you’ll disembark feeling far more refreshed – and your skin will thank you for it too.

To escape disembarking looking like a beached whale before you’re anywhere near the beach, avoid carbs like the plague during the trip. Not only will they have you reaching for the elasticated waistlines, but they’ll also have your fellow passengers running for cover, if you know what we mean. Carbs and flights are anything but good for stomachs, so stick to lighter options for everyone’s sake!

Be sure to slap on some man-moisturiser before, during and after the flight. The pressurised air in the cabin will literally suck the moisture from your skin, so the more applications the better to avoid dry, scaly patches developing.

Jetlag and lack of sleep can cause the body to produce excess cortisol in a bid to cope with the physical stress, and this can hinder the skin’s barrier’s ability to function efficiently, leading to redness, blotchiness and breakouts. Our multi-tasking Cooling Moisturiser will become your best friend, delivering a much-needed hit of moisture, with jojoba oil to balance and prevent irritation, and prickly pear, stinging nettle and fenugreek (pretty manly, but nowhere near as harsh as they sound!) to moisturise and reinvigorate the skin.

And last but not least? Try and get some shut-eye. Doing so will give your skin the best possible chance of repairing itself somewhat, and you won’t feel too out of whack when you arrive in a different time zone, either. Time it so that your snooze coincides with night time at your new destination in order to give yourself a head start, and you’ll be ready to hit the bars sooner rather than later.

Now don’t undo all your good work (and put yourself in danger) by forgetting the sun lotion! You can spot a Brit a mile of when abroad, so famed are we for sporting the red lobster look on day one of our holidays! Give it a miss this time and you’ll look and feel all the better for it!
